Privacy Policy
How we collect, use, and protect your information.
Fade ("Fade," "we," "us," or "our") operates a barbershop management platform that serves barbershop owners, barbers, and their clients. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect personal information when you use our website at getfade.co, our mobile applications, and any related services (collectively, the "Services").
This policy applies to all users of our Services, including barbershop owners and staff ("Shop Users") and individuals who book appointments or receive services through our platform ("Clients"). Where our practices differ between these groups, we call that out below. Section 13 covers Fade Club, our app for clients.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
All Users: Name, email address, phone number, and account credentials.
Clients: Appointment history, service preferences, payment card information (processed by our payment provider — we do not store full card numbers), and any photos or notes associated with your visits.
Shop Users: Business name, business address, tax identification number (EIN), bank account or debit card details for payouts, staff information, service menus, pricing, and business hours.
Information Collected Automatically
When you use our Services, we may automatically collect device information (device type, operating system, unique identifiers), log data (IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps), and cookies and similar technologies as described in Section 9.
With a Shop User's permission, the Android app accesses approximate or precise location, depending on the device and payment feature, when required to discover and operate supported payment readers or use Tap to Pay through Stripe or Moov and its MyPinPad reader components. This location access is optional, occurs only while using payment-reader features, and is not used by Fade for advertising.
For Moov Tap to Pay on Android, payment-device security checks also process app-installation and merchant identifiers, device and operating-system information, and app and payment-software versions. The payment software sends security-check failure reports containing these details and technical diagnostic information to Moov to investigate failures and protect payment processing against fraud and insecure devices.
Information from Third Parties
We may receive information from our payment processor when you complete a transaction, from Shop Users who add Client details to the platform, and from public sources to verify business information.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Services, including appointment booking, payments, and shop management features
- Process transactions and send related information such as confirmations and receipts
- Send appointment reminders, status updates, and other transactional communications via SMS, email, or push notification
- Send promotional communications, but only where you have opted in to receive them (see Section 5)
- Provide AI-powered features, such as automated appointment assistance and shop communication tools, using your interaction data to generate relevant responses
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, or other harmful activity
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms
- Analyze usage trends to improve the platform
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Between Shop Users and Clients. When a Client books an appointment, the Shop User receives the Client's name, phone number, and appointment details. Clients can see the shop's name, address, staff, and services.
- Service Providers. We work with third-party companies that help us operate the Services, including payment processing, SMS delivery, cloud hosting, and analytics. These providers access your information only to perform services on our behalf and are contractually required to protect it.
- Legal Requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or government request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Fade, our users, or the public.
- Business Transfers. If Fade is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change.
4. Payment Information
All payment processing is handled by our third-party payment processor. When you make a payment or receive a payout, your financial information is transmitted directly to and stored by our payment processor under their own security standards and privacy policy. We do not store full credit card numbers, bank account numbers, or other sensitive financial data on our servers.
Shop Users who receive payouts agree to our payment processor's terms of service as part of onboarding.
5. Text Messages and Email
We use your phone number to send transactional messages related to the Services, including appointment confirmations, reminders, cancellation notices, and account verification codes. These messages are sent based on the consent you provide when you create an account or book an appointment.
We may also send promotional text messages (such as special offers from your barbershop) only if you have separately and explicitly opted in to receive them. Promotional text consent is always optional and is not required to use the Services.
Email. If you give a barbershop your email address, for example when you book, we use it to send you that shop's emails about your appointments, such as confirmations, reminders, cancellation notices and receipts. The shop may also send you occasional promotional emails, such as special offers. Each shop's emails are separate: an email address you give one shop is not used by another shop on Fade.
We do not share your phone number or email address with third parties for their own marketing purposes. They are used solely for communications related to the Services as described in this policy.
6. AI-Powered Features
Fade offers AI-powered features that help barbershops communicate with Clients and manage their operations. When you interact with these features — for example, by sending a text message to a shop that uses our AI assistant — your messages and relevant appointment information are processed to generate a response.
We do not use your personal conversations to train general-purpose AI models. Responses from these features are based on your specific interaction and the shop's information (services, availability, policies). You will always be informed when you are communicating with an AI-powered feature rather than a person.
7. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. If you request deletion of your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 45 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, accounting, or fraud prevention purposes.
Shop Users should be aware that appointment records may be retained in anonymized form for the barbershop's business records even after a Client's account is deleted.
8. Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including encryption of data in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Cookies and Tracking
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences, understand how you use the Services, and improve your experience. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some functionality of the Services.
We may use analytics tools to collect anonymized usage data. We do not use tracking technologies to serve third-party advertising on our platform.
10. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information. These may include:
- Access. Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction. Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion. Request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
- Portability. Request a copy of your data in a commonly used, machine-readable format.
- Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing. We do not sell personal information. If our practices change, we will provide a mechanism to opt out.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@getfade.co. We will respond within 45 days. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
California Residents
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have additional rights including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as defined under the CCPA/CPRA. You may designate an authorized agent to submit requests on your behalf.
Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Other States
If you reside in a state with a comprehensive privacy law, you may have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and port your data, as well as the right to opt out of targeted advertising and profiling. Contact us at privacy@getfade.co to exercise these rights. If your request is denied, you may appeal by contacting us at the same address.
11. Children's Privacy
The Services are not directed to individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 16, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@getfade.co.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated policy on the Services and updating the "Last Updated" date above. For significant changes, we may also notify you by email or through the platform. Your continued use of the Services after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
13. Fade Club
Fade Club is our iOS and Android app for clients of barbershops that use Fade. It lets you book, change, and cancel appointments, keep a card on file for your shop, and see your visit history. This section describes how Fade Club handles your information, in addition to the rest of this policy.
- Signing in. You sign in with your mobile phone number. We text you a one-time code through our SMS provider to confirm the number is yours. Your phone number identifies your account and is how we find the shops where you are already a client.
- Your shops and appointments. Fade Club shows the appointments, visit history, and name each shop has on file for you. When you book, change, cancel, or check in, the shop and your barber see it, as they do for bookings made any other way.
- Cards on file. You enter a card in a secure form provided by our payment processor, Moov, which stores it. We keep limited details Moov returns, such as the card's brand, last four digits, and expiration date, so you can recognize and use the card. We also keep payment identifiers and verification results needed to use the saved card and prevent fraud. We never receive or store your full card number or security code. Your shop can charge a saved card for its services and under its own policies, such as cancellation fees.
- Photos and notes. If you add a photo or a note, such as a reference photo for a booking, your barber and the shop can see it.
- Notifications. If you allow notifications, we store your device's push tokens to send reminders and appointment updates, including the lock-screen countdown for an upcoming appointment. We use Apple's push service on iOS and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android. These services process device or installation identifiers and delivery information to deliver notifications.
- Location. If you allow it, Fade Club uses your location only while the app is open on the day of an appointment, to offer check-in when you are at the shop. Your location is checked on your phone and is never sent to us or stored.
- Technical information. We collect request and error information, such as IP address, app or browser version, request status, and timing, to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service.
- No tracking or ads. Fade Club does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and it does not show ads.
- Deleting your account. You can delete your Fade Club account in the app at any time (You → Delete account). This signs you out on every device, stops the app's notifications, and deletes the photos you added. Cards created through the app are removed from Moov unless an open booking made through another channel still uses them. Cards that were already on file outside the app are kept. The shops you visit keep their own records of your appointments and visits. To ask us to delete the rest of your information, email privacy@getfade.co as described above.
